Itinerary

Day 1: Climbing Mont Bugarach (16 km)

We begin the journey with a hike to the summit of Mont Bugarach (1,230 m), the highest peak of the Corbières in the French Pyrenees. Surrounded by lush forests and soaring vultures, we set our intentions for the week. We’ll spend the night at the beautifully renovated “Presbytère,” hosted by Claire.

Day 2: Hike to Quillan (24 km)

Today, we trek to the town of Quillan, nestled in the majestic Pyrenees. Along the way, we pass the castle of Le Bézu and the three prominent rock formations near Quillan, known as “Les Trois Quilles.”

For two nights, we’ll stay at a stunning location featuring a swimming pool and breathtaking views, hosted by Eve. During these two days, Angelique will prepare delicious, healthy, and organic meals for us.

Day 3: Hike to Château de Puivert (20 km)

We hike to Château de Puivert, once a gathering place for medieval troubadours. This well-preserved castle was also used as a filming location for the movie The Ninth Gate (1999). Along the way, we pass through the town of Nébias, famous for its labyrinth of winding forest paths. Upon arrival, we’ll be transported by car to our next scenic accommodation, where Angelique will greet us with a delicious meal.

Day 4: Hike to Roquefeuil (19 km)

Our journey continues through stunning beech and oak forests toward Roquefeuil. This stage offers breathtaking views of the distant Pyrenean peaks. We’ll stay 3 nights in the mountains with our Flemish host Gunther.

Day 5: Hike to Comus (23 km)

Today, we head to the mountain village of Comus (1,200 m). Along the way, we’ll catch our first glimpse of the imposing Montségur Castle, a significant symbol of the Cathars. We’ll spend the night in the mountains with our Flemish host Gunther.

Day 6: Grand Finale: Montségur (16 km)

The final day marks the climax of this pilgrimage. We reach the renowned Montségur Castle (1,207 m), the last stronghold of the Cathars during the Albigensian Crusade in the 13th century. The hike takes us through the impressive Gorges de la Frau, famous for their steep cliffs and dense, forested valleys.

At the foot of the mountain, we symbolically release all our worries at the “pyre.” At the top of Montségur, we bring our desires to life. We conclude this extraordinary journey with a celebratory dinner in the mountains with our Flemish host Gunther.

In short, an unforgettable experience filled with challenge, reflection, and connection!

I am very excited to walk this amazing historical walking path with you!
